Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery offer the following Anglo-Saxon sessions for school children.
Key Stage 2 (History, Science): Anglo-Saxons Artefact Session
Pupils will dig up and investigate objects whilst learning about how the hoard was found. They will use scientific conservation techniques to learn more about how we care for this fascinating find.
Key Stage 2 (Art, History): Anglo-Saxon Art
Discover the raw materials and techniques used to create the treasures of the Staffordshire Hoard. Pupils will then get a chance to work with metal to create their own patterns inspired by the work of Anglo-Saxon metalworkers.
Key Stage 2 (History): Anglo-Saxon Life, Interactive Session
Pupils will get into character to explore life in a Saxon village in this immersive session. Objects, costumes and stories will be used to illuminate this fascinating time period.

The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery offer the following Anglo-Saxon sessions for school children.
Key Stage 1 & 2: Digging Detectives
Develop historical skills and find out what an archaeologist does. Dig for lost artefacts, plan finds on an archaeological grid and re-assemble broken pots. This workshop can be themed to fit with your Roman, Anglo-Saxon or Stone Age topic if required.
Key Stage 1 & 2: Anglo Saxon Pots
Anglo Saxons used clay pots for many of their everyday life activities from cooking, to cremation. Create your own Anglo Saxon Pot from clay, inspired by our collection and decorate it with the Runic Alphabet.
Key Stage 2: Staffordshire Hoard Helmets
Hear the story of Hoard’s discovery and why it’s so important. View the Hoard up close and make your own Anglo-Saxon style helmet inspired by the distinctive designs of the period.
Key Stage 2: Anglo-Saxon Battle Game
Recreate a battle using hundreds of model soldiers in our exciting strategy game. Listen to a true 7th century story, discuss the origins of the Hoard and make a card game to take away.
Key Stage 2: Anglo Saxon Story Game
Can your class survive a year in an Anglo Saxon times? Become Anglo Saxon villagers in our interactive story game. Different Seasons will bring new challenges to your village presenting difficult choices. Make the wrong choice and it could lead to disaster! This is a great workshop to promote literacy, involving lively debate and the chance to play a game of riddles.
Key Stage 2, 3 & 4: Hoard Hunter
Use a metal detector and find some treasure. Would you recognise treasure if you found it? Learn about the science of metal detecting and the ethics of treasure hunting.
